  • 01/23/2012   There are four types of verbs in Portuguese: They end in '-ar', '-er', '-ir', and '-or'. However all of the '-or' verbs have the same root verb 'pôr' (to put or place). Example: Compôr, supôr, decompôr, etc.

  • 12/21/2011   velhinho - "velho" is "old" and "-inho" is the diminutive suffix. The best translation that I can come up with is "little geezer"
  • 12/12/2011   bater laje - the houses here are made of bricks and cement. The roof is either inclined with overlapped, tile-like clay shingles or it is flat, made of bricks and covered with a thick layer of cement mixed with rocks and sand. After this layer dries, they put up cement sheets that look like corrugated cardboard on top. "Bater laje" is the process of making and placing the thick layer of cement, rocks and sand on the second type of roof. It's really, REALLY hard work, but it makes the roof more water-proof.
